Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome to Week 6—the final week of winter! That means it’s also the last week for ties and beanies. Spring is just around the corner, and we’re ready to enjoy the warmer weather. Bring it on!
Over the past few weeks, the leadership team at St Mary’s has been reflecting on how best to celebrate our students’ hard work and dedication so far this year. We’re delighted to announce that St Mary’s will host its very own Ignite and Explore Day on Wednesday of Week 10.
This special day will be a joyful celebration of curiosity, creativity, and fun. Students will have the opportunity to select from a range of activities that spark their interests and passions—from scrapbooking and visual arts to cooking and gardening all of which, while being enjoyable and engaging, are designed to address relevant syllabus outcomes. These sessions will be guided by our dedicated staff and learning support assistants, who are excited to share their own hobbies and hidden talents with the students.
I look forward to seeing the excitement build as students look forward to spending time with friends from different grades and engaging with teachers in new and creative ways. The energy and enthusiasm this day promises to bring is already sparking conversations about making it a regular feature in our school calendar!
Please remember to walk your child into the school grounds when dropping them off, and to park and accompany them when picking them up. For safety reasons, no student should walk through the carpark without an adult. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
A reminder our Year 6 students are invited to the second Year 7 Taster Day at West Wyalong High School. This will be held on Thursday, more details can be found on Compass.
Remember my door is always open.
Principal
Damian Collins

This week at St Mary’s our focus value will be Kindness. Kindness is treating other people nicely – thinking about what’s good for them and respecting their thoughts, ideas and wishes. It might mean sharing with them, speaking politely, being friendly, or including them in your friendship groups or games. Jesus always spoke about treating others like we would like to be treated ourselves.
A Prayer for Kindness

A special acknowledgment is extended to Will McDonell, who has successfully qualified to represent the Canberra Goulburn team at the upcoming MacKillop Athletics Championships in September. This is a remarkable achievement and a testament to his dedication and athletic ability.
Will achieved outstanding results in the following events:

2nd Place – 12–13 Years Boys Long Jump
We wish Will all the very best as he prepares to compete at the next level.
Canberra Goulburn Archdiocese Trials
If your Year 5/6 child has the ability to compete at a representative level in the following sports - Basketball, Cricket, Netball, Football (Soccer), Softball, Touch Football and Rugby Union - you are able to nominate them for the Archdiocesan trials.
Please note that the Archdicocesan representative sport trials are highly competitve and there is an expectation that children nominating for these trials have extensive experience in the sport and currently compete at a high level.
If you would like to nominate your child to trial for a sport please go to https://csnsw.sport
Attendances for Sporting Events
School and Western Region & Canberra Goulburn and MacKillop Trials and Championships
If your child is attending a Gala Day organised by the school or representing our school at Western Region (Swimming, Cross Country or Athletics) an attendence note is NOT required. However, if your child is attending any other sporting event - Canberra Goulburn Sports Trials, MacKillop Sports Trials, Canberra Goulburn Championships (Swimming, Cross Country or Athletics) or MacKillop Championships (Swimming, Cross Country or Athletics) - an attendance note IS required.
Basketball NSW Regional Primary Schools Tourament 2025
The West Wyalong Show Day is a half day public holiday in our town. In lieu of the St Mary's Twilight Swimming Carnival, CE Canberra Goulburn have granted approval for our school to close for the morning of show day.
This means children and staff will not come to school on show day and gives everyone an opportunity to enjoy a full day at the show. Bus companies have been informed of this change.
