Our students entered into the Goldenfields Water colouring and poster competition again this year. This competition runs in conjunction with National Water Week and inspires to increase the awareness about access to clean water and choosing sustainable options.
We are very excited to announce that in the 5/6 section we had the winner and second place.

Planning is underway for St Mary’s Intensive Swimming Program. All students are encouraged to participate in this program. Swimming is very much a part of the Australian lifestyle and a high level of swimming ability and knowledge and skill in water safety is not only highly desirable but could be life saving.
The program will run over five days, from Monday 30 November to Friday 4 December. The program will meet the needs of the K – 6 PDHPE Syllabus and is under the control of L&R Group from the Holland Park Swim Centre and their qualified instructors. Class teachers will attend to supervise. The primary aim is to develop each child’s swimming ability. The program will offer the following skill levels:
|WATER LEARNER||Water Learner encourages children to become independent in the water. We introduce the fundamentals of water safety and continue to develop water confidence. The core focus is to get the child to stay afloat and start achieving short distances of propulsion.|
|WATER BASIC||This level introduces swimming skills. At this level, children will learn kicking, breathing, streamline, body position and arm rotation, the core swimming skills needed to ensure your child has the correct techniques for their on-going development.|
|WATER SKILLS||Children are now displaying correct freestyle techniques. We start to advance the distances of swimming to 15 metres. Backstroke is also introduced along with more advanced skills and drills to refine the child’s stroke and to continue water confidence.|
Squad training has various levels. Re-enforcing the core swimming skills over a longer distances of 25m.
The 50m squads focuses on fine tuning all four strokes along with further development of dives, introduction of turns, starts and finishes.
There is also a concentration on developing fitness and fun in all squads.
The students will be placed in groups depending on their level of ability as advised by parents, and in consultation with Angus. Students will be assessed on the first day to make sure they are in the correct group.
Students not attending the program will be supervised at school and set appropriate literacy learning activities.
We have received a fantastic grant from the Bland Shire Council which will be used to pay for half of the intensive swimming program.
Parents are asked to pay $35 per child plus pool entry of $12.50 if you do not have a pool season pass.

The focus of NAIDOC Week 2020 is the length of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander occupation of Australia. Aboriginal people are part of the Dreaming – past, present and future.
On Monday 23rd November St Mary’s as a school will continue our NAIDOC celebrations.
The students are encouraged to dress in the colours of the Aboriginal Flag (red, black and yellow) or the Torres Strait Islander Flag (blue, green and white)
In class groups, we will then explore and learn about the wealth and breadth of Indigenous Nations, languages and knowledge’s of this continent through dance, art and sporting activities.
Would you like to have the opportunity to be actively involved in decisions that directly affect the educational environment at our school?
We are actively seeking new Board members for 2021.

Thank you to Ollie Brown, Hamish McClintock, Jackson Downey and Harry Morton who helped Mrs Scott empty and sort the recycling bins at school on Monday. The two bins were very full and the students have raised another $70.00 to add to their recycling fund. A huge thank you to Mr Glasgow for delivering the empty containers to the recycling plant.
