St Mary's Prays
What are Virtues?
Our emotions and desires can often weaken us and make it difficult to choose - or even recognise - what is actually beautiful, good or true. The more that we repeat bad choices, the more difficult it becomes to choose the good. We call these bad choices vices. In the same way, the good choices we make, the more we form good habits and therefore, as humans, it takes less effort to behave virtuously and avoid the inclination towards evil, consequently leading us to do good.
As St Thomas Aquinas explained, the Catholic Church teaches that all moral virtues are hinged (cardo in Latin) on four Cardinal Virtues namely, prudence, justice, fortitude and temperance.
A small prayer to pray for your child will be shared over the coming weeks.
Kindness
Lord, may my child always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else.
