Volunteers for Athletics Carnival events

We still need a few helpers to assist with timing on the track.  If you can help please call the office.

Arrangements for St Mary's athletics carnival on Thursday 6th June 2019

Students in Kinder and Year 1 will have recess at school at 11am and then walk to McAlister Oval to participate in races and games.  Those who are not being picked up by parents at the ground will be escorted back to St Mary's in time for the afternoon bell and buses.

Students from Year 2 to Year 6 have advised the school they will either get off buses at the public school stop (there will be a teacher on duty there), be dropped at the Oval by parents or come to school as normal and walk to the Oval accompanied by a teacher.  The afternoon dismissal will work in reverse with students not going home with parents being accompanied to the public school bus stop or back to St Mary's after the carnival.

Children should wear house coloured t-shirs and their sports clothes.

Thank you to those parents who have indicated they are able to assist on the day in the field.

Champion trophies and ribbons will be presented to students at assembly on the 14th of June.

New Event -1500m - Nominations Required

This year sees the introduction of the 1500m event into Primary School Athletics.

At Western Region there are three age divisions, similar to the field events, which are Opens (12 and over), 11 years and Juniors (8,9 and 10 year olds).

Children will need to nominate for this event.

The event will be run for each age group on our carnival day.  There are qualifying times for each division listed above and the fastest time will qualify for Western Region.  In line with the Western Region divisions this means our 8 and 9 year olds will be competing against the 10 year olds. This event is for avid runners with only one student going through to next level.

With this in mind please discuss entering the 1500m event with your children and call the school office with your child's nomination.

High Jump Event

Due to the introduction of the 1500m event on carnival day the high jump will now be held at St Mary's on Friday 7th June.

Generally all students are expected to participate in this event.

Years 2 to 6 will need to wear their sports clothes on that day, not house colours.
